It has been shown to be active against P. aeruginosa and other gram-negative bacteria in wastewater treatment systems. Ciprofloxacin impurity A is activated by ethylene diamine and can be eluted with acidic solvents. It also inhibits tumor cell line growth through adsorption mechanism and is used as a drug for cancer chemoprevention in combination with malic acid.
