Phenylhydroquinone diacetate is a chemical used as a polymerization catalyst in the production of polyacrylates and polyesters. This chemical also has the ability to catalyze the dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons, which is useful for the removal of chlorine from natural gas. Phenylhydroquinone diacetate is a light yellow solid with a molecular weight of 158.19 g/mol. The heat resistance and stability make it an ideal candidate for use in plastics manufacturing processes that require high temperatures. It can be used as a colorant due to its aromatic hydrocarbon group, which absorbs light in the visible spectrum, giving it an orange color. It is also soluble in organic solvents such as benzene and diethyl ether.
