• Beschreibung: Amiodarone hydrochloride is an antiarrhythmic drug that belongs to the class of chromatographic agents. It is a prodrug, which is metabolized to amiodarone in vivo. Amiodarone has been shown to be effective in preventing ventricular fibrillation and malignant arrhythmias. Amiodarone prevents the onset of cardiac arrhythmia by prolonging the action potential duration and refractory period, which stabilizes the cell membrane potential during depolarization. The drug also inhibits the release of calcium ions from the sarcoplasmic reticulum, thereby reducing excitability and preventing re-entry into a fibrillating state. Amiodarone is used for the treatment of atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and chronic heart failure.
