It is used in the treatment of heartburn, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and other conditions. 3-[[[2-[(Diaminomethylene)amino]thiazol-4-yl]methyl]sulphanyl]propanoic acid is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed to famotidine, its active form, in the body.
