Entecavir is an antiviral drug that belongs to the nucleoside analog family and inhibits viral replication by inhibiting DNA polymerase α. The metabolism studies for entecavir have been completed and it was found that entecavir undergoes hydrolysis by esterases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid. Entecavir also specifically binds to markers expressed at high levels in Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains (e.g., ESX-1 secretion system protein) and inhibits cell growth in culture.
