• Beschreibung: Olmesartan medoxomil is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed to olmesartan, its active form. It is a member of the angiotensin II receptor antagonists and it is used for the treatment of hypertension and heart failure. Olmesartan medoxomil reduces the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with resistant hypertension or heart failure. The drug binds to the angiotensin II type 1 receptor, thereby blocking the binding of angiotensin II to this receptor. This prevents activation of downstream signaling pathways, including phospholipase C, protein kinase C, and mitogen-activated protein kinases. Olmesartan medoxomil also blocks the formation of new blood vessels and vascular remodeling in animal models.
