It can be prepared by the reaction of sodium carbonate with an organic or inorganic salt solution in acetonitrile. The solvents are then removed using filtration and the final product is obtained by evaporation of the solvent. 4MPPC has been used in the preparation of medoxomil, which is an antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV.
