Beschreibung

1-(3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl)-2-phenoxy-1-ethanol is a ketone that has been shown to react with oxidants such as hydrogen peroxide and potassium permanganate. The electron from the ketone is transferred to the oxidant, which causes the formation of an unstable radical cation. The deprotonation of this radical cation leads to bond cleavage and formation of an alcohol product. The peroxidase enzyme catalyzes the oxidation of 1-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-2-phenoxy-1-ethanol to create a variety of cleavage products. This reaction is important in the production of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which are found in cigarette smoke, automobile exhausts and other sources.
