• Beschreibung: Methylphenidate is a psychostimulant drug that belongs to the class of amphetamine derivates. It is used in the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, narcolepsy, and obesity. Methylphenidate has been shown to inhibit serotonin reuptake and increase serotonin release in animals. This drug also inhibits monoamine oxidase (MAO) activity and increases levels of dopamine and norepinephrine. Methylphenidate may be effective as an antidepressant because it prevents the breakdown of serotonin, which is responsible for mood control, by MAO inhibitors.
