Sildenafil N-Oxide's effects on human erection are thought to be due to its ability to block phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), which increases the levels of cGMP in smooth muscle cells and causes relaxation of the corpus cavernosum. This leads to increased blood flow into the penis and an erection.
