It is an activator of the ribonucleotide reductase enzyme and is currently being studied as an anticancer and antiviral agent. N6-Benzoyl-2'-O-methyladenosine has shown antitumor activity against human breast cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, inhibiting tumor growth. It also inhibits the replication of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) and type 2 (HSV2).
