This reaction produces four products: 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid, 4-hydroxymethylphenylacetate, 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid, and 3-hydroxybenzoic acid. 1-Methoxypyrene can also undergo acetylation reactions with acetyl coenzyme A (acetyl CoA) to produce 4-(2'-hydroxyethyl)-1-methoxycyclohexane carboxylic acid.
