• Beschreibung: O-Phenylserine is a product of the licheniformis strain of Bacillus subtilis. It has been shown to be structurally similar to bacitracin, an antibiotic that is used in topical ointments and eye drops. O-Phenylserine has been found to be more active than bacitracin against gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus licheniformis, but less active against gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli. Although the structural mechanism for its antibacterial activity is not yet known, it may be due to its nucleophilic character or methyl ester group. O-phenylserine can be synthesized from tyrocidine by a palladium-catalyzed deprotection reaction with reagents such as potassium t-butoxide and hydrochloric acid.
