It binds to the ligand binding site of the ion channel, thereby preventing the flow of ions through the channel. 2-Methyloxyethylammonium iodide has been shown to inhibit L-type voltage-gated calcium channels in mouse dorsal root ganglion neurons, and therefore may be useful for treatment of pain. 2-Methyloxyethylammonium iodide is a ligand that can activate some receptors and inhibit others. The binding of 2-methyloxyethylammonium iodide to its receptor triggers a conformational change that activates or inhibits function of the receptor and downstream signaling pathways.
