The compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of leukemia cells in vitro, and has been shown to be active against cancer cells in vivo. CDK8-IN-2 was found to inhibit protein synthesis by blocking the phosphorylation of p27, a protein that regulates cell proliferation. CDK8-IN-2 also showed an anti-leukemic activity and could be a potential drug target for treating cancer. Studies have shown that CDK8-IN-2 is well tolerated with no toxic effects observed in laboratory mice or rats.CDK8-IN-2 was found to be safe and well tolerated in healthy human volunteers with no dose limiting toxicities observed at doses up to 150 mg/day.
