3-Carboxy-4-octyl-2-methylenebutyrolactone is a potent synthetic analog of the natural fatty acid synthase inhibitor, FASN. It inhibits the activity of FASN, which plays an important role in the synthesis of fatty acids in macrophages and other cells. 3C8OL has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo.
