Beschreibung:Tonibral is a synthetic surfactant that can be used in pharmaceutical formulations and as a coating for medical devices. It is also used as a neuroprotective agent and an analytical reagent. Tonibral has been shown to have long-term effects on the muscle, which may be due to its ability to reduce biogenic amines and increase the flow rate of blood vessels in the brain. Tonibral is synthesized by combining two chemicals, one that contains a long hydrophobic chain (e.g., octadecanol) and one with a hydrophilic head group (e.g., sodium dodecyl sulfate). This synthesis can be accomplished in two ways: 1) through the condensation of octadecanol with sodium dodecyl sulfate or 2) through the reaction of octadecanol with sodium dodecyl sulfate and sulfuric acid.
