Produktinformation
This compound is a synthetic intermediate that can be used in the synthesis of other compounds. It is an aldehyde that undergoes cyclization to form a six-membered ring. The reaction yields the corresponding 2-vinylbenzaldehyde, which is used as an intermediate for the synthesis of other aromatic compounds. The reaction proceeds with butyllithium in tetrahydrofuran at -78°C to give 2-vinylphenol, which undergoes a second cyclization to form 2-vinylphenanthroline. This transformation is catalyzed by hydriodic acid and catalytic by hydriodic acid and hydrogen peroxide.
The product can also be used in the manufacture of citalopram and other drugs that are not susceptible to enzymatic degradation.
