Methyl 5-amino-2-nitrobenzoate is a cytotoxic compound that inhibits the growth of cells by interfering with their ability to synthesize proteins. It inhibits urethane synthesis, which is an important process in the development of cancer cells. Methyl 5-amino-2-nitrobenzoate also inhibits the production of malondialdehyde and ethylene oxide, which are products of lipid peroxidation. This inhibition may be due to its free radical scavenging activity, as well as its ability to inhibit the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS).
