This compound is an experimental model for carcinogenic potential. 1-[Nitroso(2-oxopropyl)amino]propan-2-one binds to the dinucleotide phosphate DNA polymerase, an enzyme involved in DNA replication and repair. It also inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the rat liver microsomes.
