4-Iodobenzoyltrifluoroacetone is an antibacterial agent that is mediated by glutamate. It has a high selectivity for Gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii. 4-Iodobenzoyltrifluoroacetone has been clinically used in China to treat patients with cystic fibrosis who have infection with these bacteria. The molecule has also been commercialized in Japan for the treatment of urinary tract infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria, such as Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus saprophyticus, which are resistant to other antibiotics. 4-Iodobenzoyltrifluoroacetone is also used as an intermediate in the industrial production of fluoroquinolones. 4-Iodobenzoyltrifluoroacetone can be synthesized by reacting benzoyl chloride with sodium azide
