(2S,3’Z)-Cefprozil is a cephalosporin antibiotic that is used in the treatment of bacterial diseases. The (2S,3’Z) isomer has been found to be more potent than the racemic mixture. Cefprozil can bind to DNA and inhibit the growth of bacteria by inhibiting protein synthesis, which leads to cell death. This drug also has a strong affinity for plasma proteins and is metabolized by liver enzymes. A pharmacokinetic study showed that the elimination half-life of cefprozil in healthy Chinese subjects was 9 hours. The validation of this method was performed using acetonitrile as a mobile phase with reaction monitoring at 190 nm, which gave an excellent linearity over a wide concentration range. Mass spectrometric analysis was performed on a LC-MS/MS system with calibration using standards and reproducibility studies were conducted using HPL-MS/MS method.
