5-(4-Bromophenyl)pyrimidine is a luminescent dye that can be tuned to emit light at wavelengths of 400 nm to 700 nm. This dye has a resorcinol and hydroquinone core, which provides hydrogen bonding interactions. 5-(4-Bromophenyl)pyrimidine also has π-π interactions with its phenyl substituents. It can be encapsulated in an organic polymer matrix for use as a molecular probe for biological imaging or used as a luminescent material for fiber optic sensors.
