Pandinotoxin-kα is a synthetic glucocorticoid that binds to the glucocorticoid receptor and blocks ion channels. It has been shown to have cytostatic and cytotoxic properties on cancer cells. The drug was developed by modifying the natural compound pandinotoxin with an alpha-subunit that was synthetically derived from glibenclamide, a drug used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus.
