Beschreibung

4-(4-Chloro-phenyl)-piperazin-1-yl]-naphthalen-2-yl-acetic acid (R1559) is a new drug for the treatment of tuberculosis. It is a potent, selective, and long acting inhibitor of mycobacterial lipoprotein lipase. R1559 has been shown to bind to the active site of the enzyme and inhibit its activity. The binding affinity with human lipoprotein lipase is approximately 10 times higher than with other enzymes such as pancreatic lipase or hepatic triglyceride lipase. R1559 has shown efficacy in animal models of tuberculostatic disease, including inhibition of weight gain, reduction of ovary size, and suppression of ovulation. In addition, this drug has been shown to reduce insulin resistance in both type 2 diabetes patients and polycystic ovary syndrome patients.
