3-Acetylpyridine oxime is a synthetic, postulated anion. The synthetic process for 3-acetylpyridine oxime has been proposed and kinetic studies have been performed on the reaction of this anion with cholinesterases. The postulated reaction mechanism is that the acetyl group of 3-acetylpyridine oxime reacts with the active site of cholinesterase to form a reactive intermediate that is then attacked by water leading to product formation. This type of reaction has been found to be reproducible and predictable. The yields obtained are also reproducible and shift the equilibrium in favor of the desired product.
