Beschreibung:
Letrozole is an aromatase inhibitor that is used to treat post-menopausal women with hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer. It blocks the conversion of androgens to estrogens by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme. Letrozole has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of human breast tumor cells in culture, with IC50 values in the low nanomolar range. Letrozole also inhibits the production of estrogen from testosterone, which may lead to decreased levels of circulating estrogen and reduced risk for recurrence of breast cancer. This drug has been shown to be safe and effective for use in post-menopausal women and can be taken orally as a pill or given as a subcutaneous injection once per day.
