Methyl (2S)-2-acetamido-3-(1H-imidazol-4-yl)propanoate can also be synthesized by reacting n butyl alcohol with nitrous acid followed by the addition of hydrochloric acid to give an acetamide derivative. This derivative reacts with ammonia and hydrogen iodide to form methyl (2S)-2 acetamido
