Sodium 2-amino-4-nitrophenol is a yellowish solid that can be used to synthesize nitrobenzoyl chloride. It reacts with chloroform in the presence of sodium acetate to produce an orange precipitate, which can be filtered and washed with water. The cyclization reaction is selective and does not react with other functional groups on the molecule. This product may contain trace amounts of impurities such as cyclized products, acylation intermediates, or hydrogenating byproducts. Sodium 2-amino-4-nitrophenol can also be used to synthesize amides by condensation or hydrogenating aromatic nitro compounds.
