(4R)-N-Nitroso thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid is a metabolite of (4R)-N-nitrosodimethylamine and has been detected in urine samples from animals. It is also found in humans, but its role in human metabolism is unknown. There are no known adverse health effects associated with this compound, and it is not listed as a carcinogen. The compound's magnetic resonance spectrum indicates that it contains a hydroxy group and an acidic group. The compound reacts with acids to produce nitrous acid, which can be used as a reagent for the synthesis of other compounds or as an antioxidant. (4R)-N-Nitroso thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid can be synthesized by reacting sodium nitrate with acetaldehyde in the presence of light or heat.
