This alkaloid has shown to have sulfide and diptocarpidine as its main constituents. 7-(Methylsulfanyl)heptanoic acid has been shown to be effective against tuberculosis, but it does not show antimicrobial activities against gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes.
