It is an orally administered histone deacetylase inhibitor that blocks the enzyme from removing acetyl groups from histones and other proteins. MGCD0103 inhibits the expression of genes that contribute to tumorigenesis, such as those for inflammatory cytokines. MGCD0103 is currently undergoing clinical trials for cancer treatment.
