Beschreibung:3-Oxobetulin acetate is a betulinic acid derivative that has been shown to inhibit the growth of amastigotes and prevent their differentiation into promastigotes in the Leishmania major life cycle. This compound also inhibits the growth of macrophages and decreases the production of nitric oxide by these cells. 3-Oxobetulin acetate has anti-leishmanial activity against both Leishmania major and Leishmania tropica, but not against Trypanosoma brucei. This drug affects macrophages by decreasing the production of proinflammatory cytokines and increasing the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines. It also acts as an inhibitor for leukotrienes, prostaglandin, and thromboxane synthesis, which may be due to its ability to reduce hydroxy groups on lupane skeleton.
