Apogossypolone is a pro-apoptotic drug that has been shown to inhibit the expression of pro-apoptotic proteins and induce apoptosis in cancer tissues. Apogossypolone suppresses tumor growth by inducing autophagy and inhibiting proliferation. Apogossypolone inhibits the expression of bcl-2, which is an anti-apoptotic protein, and increases the expression of gossypol, which is a reactive oxygen species that induces apoptosis. Apogossypolone also inhibits the expression of Mcl-1, which is an anti-apoptotic protein that protects cells from death induced by radiation or chemotherapy.
