4-Methylquinolin-8-amine is a synthetic, quinoline derivative that has shown to be an effective inhibitor of the growth of bacteria. It is used as an antimicrobial agent in the treatment of skin infections caused by bacteria sensitive to this drug. 4-Methylquinolin-8-amine is thought to inhibit bacterial growth by forming hydrogen bonds with chloride ions, which disrupts the structure of bacterial cell walls and prevents their replication. This drug also has been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties, including reduced absorption in the gastrointestinal tract and rapid elimination from the body.
