Syringaresinol is a natural phenylpropanoid glycoside that has been shown to inhibit the activity of PTP1B, an enzyme that is involved in the activation of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Syringaresinol also inhibits the activity of HIV-1 protease and other enzymes involved in inflammatory disease. Syringaresinol has potent inhibitory activities against biphenyl, an important industrial chemical with carcinogenic properties, and can also be used as a food additive.
