Produktinformation
2,5-Bis(trifluoromethyl)thiophene is a methylated thiophene that has fluorine atoms in the 2 and 5 positions. It is a colorless liquid with an unpleasant odor. 2,5-Bis(trifluoromethyl)thiophene has been used as a catalyst for the polymerization of sulfur and hydrogen fluoride. This compound can be prepared from 2,5-dichlorothiophene (1) by reaction with trifluoromethyl sulfide (2). The equilibrium constant of this reaction is determined to be 3.0 at 0 °C and 1 atm pressure. The yield of this compound is low because the reaction requires elevated temperatures and pressures.
