Beschreibung

Prothioconazole (PTZ) is a triazole derivative that inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, which is an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This fungicide binds to the 14-alpha demethylase enzyme and prevents it from converting lanosterol into ergosterol. As a result, the fungal cell membrane becomes unstable and ruptures, releasing cytoplasmic components and causing cell death. Prothioconazole has been shown to be biodegradable in the environment, based on its degradation in soil. It also has low toxicity for animals, as it does not accumulate in tissues or cause any adverse effects when given to rats at high doses. Prothioconazole can be quantified by liquid chromatography with an ultraviolet detector or gas chromatography-mass spectrometry after treatment with methylene chloride. The residue levels are usually below 0.1 ppm.
