Temanogrel is a human liver gene product that is a member of the platelet-derived growth factor family. It has been shown to have potent antiplatelet activity in vitro and in vivo. Temanogrel has been shown to inhibit 5-HT2C receptors, which are involved in the development of stress ulcers and gastric mucosal damage. Temanogrel also inhibits the production of nitric oxide and prostaglandin, which are factors involved with the breakdown of blood vessels during an acute ischemic event. The pharmacokinetic properties of temanogrel have been studied in CD-1 mice and Sprague-Dawley rats. In these studies, temanogrel was found to be absorbed orally and distributed throughout the body. Temanogrel has shown good efficacy as a test compound in vivo after acute ischemic stroke treatments in mice.
