Beschreibung

5-O-Methyl-myo-inositol is a naturally occurring sugar that is a component of the phosphatidylinositols. 5-O-Methyl-myo-inositol is synthesized by myo-inositol synthase, an enzyme that catalyses the reaction of two molecules of inositol to form one molecule of 5-O-methyl-myo-inositol. This compound can be found in plants, such as green beans, and also has been reported to have hypoglycemic effects on animals. It has been shown to inhibit hepatic glucose production and liver injury, which may be due to its ability to induce mitochondrial membrane potential and postprandial blood glucose. 5-O-Methyl myo inositol can also be found in chromatographic analysis and enzyme activity studies.
