Beschreibung

Orientin is a 4-hydroxycinnamic acid derivative that is found in plants of the genus Vitex. It has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity and significant antitumor activity in animal models. Orientin was shown to inhibit proliferation of bowel cancer cells in vitro by blocking cell division. This compound also inhibits the growth of tumor cells by inducing apoptosis (programmed cell death). The mechanism of action for orientin involves its ability to induce oxidative injury, which leads to pathogenic mechanisms that are similar to those induced by radiation. The antioxidant properties of orientin may be due to its ability to inhibit nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κβ) activation and toll-like receptor signaling pathways.
