Beschreibung

2'-Azido-2'-deoxyadenosine is a purine nucleoside that is synthesized from 2,6-diaminopurine and deoxyadenosine. It has been shown to be a noncompetitive inhibitor of the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase. This inhibition prevents the formation of nucleotides required for DNA synthesis and cell growth. The biological properties of 2'-azido-2'-deoxyadenosine have been studied in relation to acetylation. The UV absorption spectrum shows maximum absorption at 270 nm, which can be used as a marker for this drug. 2'-Azido-2'-deoxyadenosine has also been shown to inhibit the polymerase activity of Escherichia coli DNA polymerase I (Pol I) and yeast Pol I. In addition, it has been found that 2'-azido-2'-deoxyadenosine exhibits dichroism when dissolved in water or methanol
