Beschreibung

(Z)-2-Methylbut-2-enoate is an antimicrobial agent that has been shown to be effective against a range of bacteria, including gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It also inhibits the growth of cancer cells and angiogenic factors. This compound has a potential use as a therapeutic agent in inflammatory skin diseases. The mechanism of action is not yet fully understood but may involve toll-like receptor 4, which is activated by bacterial lipopolysaccharides. (Z)-2-Methylbut-2-enoate binds to the enzyme DNA polymerase causing it to stall, preventing replication of the DNA strand and leading to cell death.
