It has an optimum transition of 530 nm and emission peaks at 547 nm. The compound also undergoes a conformational change from a trans to cis conformation when it is subjected to pressure or high temperature. 3-Bromophenanthrene-9,10-dione can be analyzed by UV/VIS spectroscopy, which yields information about its conformation and purity. This compound exists in two polymorphs: the alpha form and beta form. The alpha form is more stable than the beta form at ambient conditions.
