Palladium(II) sulfate dihydrate is a compound that contains palladium, sulfur and oxygen. It has been used as a binding agent for hydrogen peroxide, which is an oxidizing agent. Palladium sulfate dihydrate is also used to bind the oligomeric form of the polymerase complex of the nucleoside-5’-nucleotide (N) synthase-b (ns5b). This compound has shown activity against influenza A virus and HIV, but not against herpes simplex virus.
Palladium(II) sulfate dihydrate can be synthesized by mixing lithium metal with a solution of palladium chloride in liquid ammonia or methanol. The lithium ion reduces palladium chloride to palladium metal, which reacts with sulfur dioxide to produce palladium(II) sulfate dihydrate.
