Indium(I)chloride is a ligand that can be used to produce indium chloride in the presence of other reagents. Indium(I)chloride has been shown to yield chloride when reacted with toluene, with the ratio of products depending on the stoichiometry of the reaction. It is also possible to produce indium chloride by reacting it with hydrogen chloride gas, which may be done in either a closed or open system. In both cases, the product will be anhydrous indium chloride. Indium(I)chloride is also a crystalline solid that has been studied using x-ray crystallography and theoretical calculations. The theory behind this study was based on structural and electronic properties of this compound. This approach allowed for rationalization of its crystal structure and electronic properties.
