NMR spectra show that PPE has a triplet ground state, which is indicative of its reactivity. The activation energies are relatively low, indicating that it is easy to break the covalent bond in the triplet state. This chemical reacts with azides and can be used as a chemical ligation agent for bioconjugation reactions.
