2-Isopropenyl-5-methyl-5-vinyltetrahydrofuran (mixture of isomers) is a natural product with a number of different chromatographic profiles that can be found in plants. It is an additive for polymers and plastics, and it has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. This natural product can be extracted from blueberries as well as from other plant sources using microextraction techniques. The extract obtained from the blueberry plant contains mainly 2-isopropenyl-5-methyl tetrahydrofuran (2IPMT). A mixture of 2IPMT and 2-isopropenyl 5-methyl 5-(1,1,3,3tetramethylbutyl) tetrahydrofuran (2I5MBT) has been identified as the major components in the extract of this plant source.
