Lanthanum iodide is a compound with the chemical formula LaI. It is a reaction product of lanthanum and iodine that is used in chronic kidney disease patients to lower phosphorus levels in urine. Lanthanum iodide has been shown to be effective in reducing the level of phosphorus in urine by binding to the phosphate ion, which prevents its reabsorption.
