• Beschreibung: 5-Hydroxypyrazine-2-carboxamide is a prodrug of pyrazinamide, an anti-tuberculosis drug. It is metabolized to pyrazinoic acid in the liver and excreted in the urine. The concentration of 5-hydroxypyrazine-2-carboxamide in the blood plasma is very low and no significant accumulation has been observed. In experiments with rats, 5-hydroxypyrazine-2-carboxamide was shown to be well tolerated and did not produce any adverse effects at doses up to 500 mg/kg orally. It also effectively inhibited bacterial growth in vitro and showed good activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex.5-Hydroxypyrazine-2-carboxamide is used for the treatment of tuberculosis in pediatric patients who cannot tolerate other antitubercular drugs or who have failed to respond satisfactorily to other
